]]> South Africa and the European Union must fight xenophobia together, says EU ambassador Roeland van de Geer.
He was speaking to guests celebrating the 65th anniversary of the world’s most successful regional grouping that now has 28 members.

Even though it’s become a middle income country, South Africa will continue to get development assistance, says EU ambassador Roeland van de Geer.
However he says trade remains more important than aid.
The sky’s the limit in dealings between the EU that buys 28 percent of South Africa’s exports and sell its 23 percent of its imports.
Growth must increase, jobs must be created and peace and security enhanced.

The ambassador says this means dealing with people so desperate they risk their lives seeking a better existence in Europe and South Africa.
