Human Rights Watch says the removal of hundreds of thousands of Somali refugees from camps in Kenya doesn’t meet international humanitarian law standards.

The rights watchdog says more than 300 000 refugees who fled Somalia since the outbreak of civil war 25 years ago are being repatriated against their will.

Kenya said in May it’s closing the world’s largest refugee camp at Dadaab and repatriating its residents  to their countries of origin.

Kenya, Somalia and the United Nations Refugee Agency signed a Tripartite Agreement in November 2013 governing the repatriation of Somali refugees. The Human Rights Watch report says the UN Refugee Agency isn’t providing refugees accurate information about conditions in Somalia, which is still subject to regular attacks by Al Shabaab.

Some Dadaab residents are leaving now to get a $400 cash grant the UN is paying  those currently being repatriated.
