The results is expected to shore up the position of President Paul Kagame who won the presidential poll with 98% of the vote a year ago.

The African Union has election observers at Rwanda’s parliamentary poll where the ruling Rwanda Patriotic Front is a racing certainty to win.

The prominent role Kagame has played in transforming AU finances has led to the continental organization overlooking his human rights violations at home and abroad which involves jailing and even killing his opponents.

A large number of the 516 candidates contesting 53 of Rwanda’s 80 parliamentary seats are under the age of 25.

There are 200 000  under 25s among the seven million registered voters in Rwanda.
