Protestors and security forces have clashed after teachers went on strike  teachers’ strike against a perceived lack of educational provision for Anglophone children.

Cameroon is divided between a  Francophone community comprising more than 80% of the population and the Anglophone group making up just less than a a fifth.

Angolophone teachers are incensed that government’s been deploying Francophone teachers to English-speaking pupils  who have a markedly different sylabus.

They’ve threatened to close all Anglophone schools in the country.

Security forces were deployed to the north-western city of Bamenda and fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators who joined teachers in voicing their grievances with the Francophone administration.
