There’s been mixed reaction to Ghana’s re-opening after a three week lockdown to ward off the COVID 19 pandemic.

President Nana Akufo Ado says the relaxation of the stay-home will be tailored, adding that it was doing enormous harm to the country’s poor.

The Ghanaian cities of Accra and Kumasi opened at the same time as cities in German and Denmark and India.

There are still restrictions in the West African state.

Busses and taxis have to carry a mimum number of passengers and stores have to ensure social distancing.

Many Ghanaians say its asking too much of the police to ensure these are obeyed.

Ghana has tested 68 000 people and found 1042 confirmed cases of COVID 19. The virus has killed nine people.

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has led the funeral tributes for one of his predecessors, Kofi Annan who died last month aged 80.

Ghana’s President Nana Akufo Addo and other former presidents praised the first sub Saharan to become the world’s top diplomat.

It was a mixture of pomp and ceremony and warm family emotion in Accra today as Kofi Annan was finally laid to rest.

The man, who devoted  his career to the United Nations and  gave his life to making peace, was sent on his final journey by his wife Nane who said he was an inspiration to the world.

The Nobel Peace Prize laureate was hailed as a special father and husband and an outstanding human being

Election officials in Ghana are busy counting and collating votes after yesterday’s presidential poll.

Final results in the closely contested race are expected by the weekend.

The New Patriotic Party’s  calling on President John Dramani  Mahama to throw in the towel, claiming they’ve won more than 54% of collated results.

They called a press conference in Accra to trumpet their claim which has been condemned by the National Peace Council.

There are seven presidential candidates, but the most significant contest is between President John Dramani Mahama and former Foreign Minister Nana Akufo Addo whom he beat four years ago.

Candidate of the People’s National Convention Dr Edward Mahama has congratulated Akufo-Addo as the winner of the presidential election and urged other candidates to follow suit..
