The deal, which will hopefully set Sudan back on the road to stability, was announced in Khartoum by African Union mediator Hassan Lebatt.

It will establish a ten-member council, with five military and five civilian delegates, that will alternatively hold power for 18 months each in a three year transitional period

The agreement is to establish an independent technocratic government.

Civilian leaders, who have been demonstrating for months,  say they are sure the hard-won deal means the end of military rule in Sudan.
