Global travel boss Alexandre de Juniac says South Africa could more than double that number of passenger journeys over the next 20 years.

The Director General of the International Air Transport Association says this would create 372 000 more jobs and contribute more than R282 billion rand to the country’s GDB.

Alexandre de Juniac has both praise and concerns for the aviation sector in South Africa which he calls the business of freedom.

He tell a media briefing in Johannesburg that  aviation will be boosted by African Free Trade Agreement and  the continental agreement on a single air transport market.

To achieve the growth IATA predicts, South Africa must address restrictive immigration policies and reduce taxes making doing business in South Africa expensive.

It must harmonize policy making on  transport and aviation.
