The 85-year-old say he’ll retain the presidency for only a year if elected.

Algeria’s largest Islamic Party, the Movement of Society for Peace, threatens to withdraw from the election if President Abdelaziz Bouteflika stands again.

It remains to be seen if it carries out this threat, just as it is not certain that Bouteflika will stand by his undertaking to step down after one year if his re-elected for a fifth term.

The big question, however, is will this concession be accepted by the protestors.
