]]> Israel’s ambassador to Pretoria says South Africans will be hurt more than his compatriots if their embassy in Tel Aviv is downgraded.

Arthur Lenk was responding to a resolution by the Western Cape branch of the ANC calling for the South African mission to downgraded.

The decision taken by this week’s  ANC policy conference has to be ratified by the party’s elective conference at the end of this year if it is to become policy.

Israeli Ambassador Arthur Lenk says a smaller mission in Tel Aviv would make it more difficult for South Africans to drive exports in Israel that have fallen from R7,2 billion in 2014  to R5 billion last year.

He says downgrading the embassy would hurt South Africans have no impact whatever on Israelis or Palestinians.
