President Cyril Ramaphosa’s in Cairo today attending summits on Sudan and Libya hosted by his Egyptian counterpart Abdelfattah El Sisi.

At least five other heads of government will join deliberations on Africa’s two most troubling issues.

It’s in his capacity as rotating chair of the African Union that Egypt’s President Abdelfattah El Sisi has called the summits.

AU commission chair Moussa Faki will be there along with the Presidents of Chad, Djibouti, Rwanda, DRC and Somalia.

Five more African countries are sending foreign ministers or special advisers.

On Sudan they’ll consider how best to back stability and peace following the coup ousting Omar Al Bashir easier this month.

With rebel-led fighting around Tripoli, the African leaders will seek ways of dealing with the Libyan crisis and eradicate the terrorism fueling the conflict.

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s in Addis Ababa for regional and continental meetings putting post-election Congo under the spotlight.

They’ll be looking at reconciling the results announced by the electoral commission in Kinshasa with the  sharp disputes over the outcome.

The six members of SADC’s  Double Troika will look at the DRC where opposition coalition candidate Martin Fayulu has asked the Constitutional Court examine provisional results declaring  Felix Tshisekedi winner.

SADC observers have endorsed the DRC election and the regional leadership is proposing a power-power-sharing deal to keep the peace in that restive Central African giant.

On completion of the Double Troika meeting, SADC’s political and security leaders will deliberate with their counterparts from the Great Lakes region and the African Union Commission.

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s in Mauritania for the 31st African Union summit.

It theme is fighting the corruption hamstringing development, but as Jean-Jacques Cornish reports continental leaders have other difficult issues to confront.

AU Commission Chair Moussa Faki Mahamat says at lest $50 billion of illicit money flows out of Africa every year.

That’s enough to lift countries out of poverty and change the lives of million of Africans.

Dealing with this is a priority of the gathering in Nouakchott this weekend.

But leaders also have to look at sustaining the peace signed between South Sudan’s government and the rebels who’s five-year war as killed a hundred thousand and displaced millions.

They also have to press new member Morocco to end its illegal occupation of the Western Sahara which is Africa’s last colonial vestige.

In his first month in office, new US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo  has  called African leaders to promise support in advancing democracy and fighting terrorism.

South Africa’s not on his list,  marking it’s fall from the country with the most advanced relations with Washington to one of those most likely to vote against the US at the United Nations.

The State Department tweets show a  common thread through Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s calls to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta, African Union Commission head Moussa Faki Mahmat and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmet.

It stresses longstanding relations and US eagerness to help in advancing security, stability and democracy.

South Africa, which once had a binational commission with Washington that put members of the two administrations on first name terms has clearly fallen from that status.
