The developing world’s having an increasing say in how countries of the south should be cooperating and what assistance they need from the developed world.

The Institute for Global Dialogue and the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung gave participants in the South-South Cooperation summit known as BAPA – 20  in Buenos Aires last March a platform to explain this.

Government representatives, diplomats, academics and civil society groups heard how dramatically the development landscape has changes since the roadmap proposed by the landmark Buenos Aires summit 20 years ago.

Executive Director of the Institute for Global Dialogue Philani Mthembu says the global south is not longer simply a recipient of ideas and development experiences.

They themselves are shaping the narrative on global development.

“For rather thank looking to the North for examples of development, countries are looking towards their neighbors,” Methembu says, adding that  there are exchanges between countries with similar experiences and they are actually learning from one another.
