At least six villagers in Northern Mozambique have been killed by terrorists stealing the food coming in from humanitarian teams in the wake of cyclone Kenneth.

The jihadis, who support so-called Islamic State, were making their presence known after President Felipe Nyusi visited the disaster scene.

The terrorists have been active in Cabo Delgado province, beheading villagers and attacking government soldiers.

Locals have long complained about being marginalised by the cash-strapped government.

President Felipe Nyusi, visiting the areas hit by Cyclone Kenneth six days ago, urged the people to resume farming.

More than 30 000 ha. of crops have been lost to the deadly storm.

Nyusi promised to mobilise support from Mozambique’s development partners to rebuild the homes and buildings destroyed by Kenneth.

Mozambique security forces are accused of serious human rights violations against Islamist militants they’re battling in the far north of their country.

The jihadis have killed  dozens of victims many of them beheaded or hacked to death with machetes.

The jihadis have been active in the Cabo Delgado province where the local populations complains it is not benefiting from the burgeoning local oil and gas operations.

The cruel attacks on villagers occur almost weekly.

Human Rights Watch says security forces trying to counter the militants have themselves perpetrated executions and arbitrary arrests of suspects.

The organization  bases its report on evidence gained since August.

It’s calling on Mozambique authorities to take immediate steps to stop human rights violations.
