The Israeli government’s plan to forcibly evict African asylum seekers has collapsed.

Authorities have told the High Court they will stop holding deportation hearings and and previous expulsion decisions have now been nullified.

In an embarrassing climbdown, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admits that his plan to relocate African asylum seekers has fallen through and there’s currently no possibility of forcibly detaining them.

Detention centres established for asylum seekers – mainly from Eritrea and Sudan – will be reopened.

Visas, renewable after 60 days,  will be issued to migrants currently being held.

This is a victory for the coalition of human rights groups that petitioned the High Court last month to demand that those who face deportation be allowed to see the agreements Israel allegedly signed with Rwanda or Uganda, the countries to which it planned to deport them.

Both African nations deny the existence of such deals.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s defending his four nation safari saying  Israel is returning to Africa and Africa is returning to Israel.

The first Israeli leader to visit mainland Africa in three decades is taking domestic political flak for the $13 million price tag on what’s being called the most expensive foreign visit by an Israeli Prime Minister.

Yesterday’s  talks in Nairobi between Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ended with the visitor agreeing   to help Kenya to fight terrorism by sharing intelligence.

The Jewish state will also assist in the construction of a border security wall with Somalia to stop the flow of fighters who cross over to conduct terror attacks.

Netanyahu declares Africa has no greater friend than Israel.

He says things are changing in the world, Middle East and Arab neighbours with Israel; why not Africa?

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu invokes the spirit of Entebbe in the global fight against terrorism

Marking the 40th anniversary of Israel’s rescue operation of 100 Jews and Israeli’s being held at the Ugandan airport by Palestinian and German terrorists was his first duty at the start of the first visit to sub-Saharan Africa by an Israeli leader in more than 30 years.

Benjamin Netanyahu, starting his five-day trip when he’s meet seven African leaders in four countries says  its emotional for him to stand very near where his brother Yonathan fell in the 1976 Israeli commando raid to extract Jewish and Israeli passengers from an Air France flight held hostage at the Entebbe Airport.

He says the fight against terror continues today threatening every country and continent.

The world  must stand united in one spirit, and one front, in the spirit of Entebbe.
