Marc Ravalomanana was taken to a military base at Antisiranana a day after ending five years of exile in South Africa and returning to Madagascar without a passport.
His wife Lalao, son Tojo and other family members were permitted to visit him yesterday.
However when they attempted to return to the capital Antananarivo today to hold a press conference, their plane was grounded by authorities.
There seems to be some confusion in the government of President Heri Rajoanarimampianini over if and when they will be allowed to leave.
