Delivering his Budget, Finance Minister Kenneth Matambo outlined his government privatisation policy to improve the efficiency of the public sector.

Botswana’s privatisation will include the outright sale of public assets and outsourcing non-core public services.

The IPO for the country’s telecommunications corporation BTCL is expected in the first half of 2015.

Finance Minister Kenneth Matambo says the process will ensure that shares were offered to citizens, which should empower them through the dividend payments.

The National Development Bank will also be privatised.

A third of Botswana’s 55.38 billion pula budget comes from diamonds.

But the supply is expected to slump dramatically.

Last year’s growth was driven by non-mining sectors like tourism and finance.
