]]> Mohamed Fahmy, one of three Al Jazeera jouralists jailed for supporting the banned Muslim Brotherhood has renounced his Egyptian citizenship and will be released shortly.

This from Canadian officials waiting to take him to the country where he has joint citizenship.

Mohammed Fahmy will be deported from Egypt like his Australian colleague Peter Greste.

The authorities have opted to boot them out rather than send for them retrial for spreading lies and supporting a banned organisation.

It remains to be seen what will be done with Egyptian journalist Baher Mohammed who was jailed with them 400 days ago.

All three insist they were just doing their jobs.

Fahmy’s family say surrendering his Egyptian citizenship was a tough decision for a man from a family with a strong military background.

But this is an absolute condition of his release.
