The first of these was a nurse who treated two missionaries who were repatriated after contracting Ebola in West Africa.

Two weeks ago the nurse, diagnosed with Ebola fever, cleaned the Madrid hospital room occupied by the missionaries who had died of the deadly haemorrhagic disease.

She went on holiday a day later but didn’t leave Spain.

A week ago she went to hospital feeling ill but was sent home.

She was finally admitted and tested positive for Ebola.

The nurse’s husband and at least two others have been quarantined as Spanish medical authorities play catch up.

They say they’ve identified 22 people the nurse has come into contact with since treating the missionaries
