President Cyril Ramaphosa has noted the provisional result of the DRC Presidential poll released by that country’s electoral commission.

He urges the commission know as CENI to complete the process to ensure the credibility of the election and maintaining stability.

Diplomats note that President Cyril Ramaphosa has not congratulated Felix Tshisekedi who was named as Congo’s next president.

Ramaphosa’s playing his cards cautiously. South Africa’s  increasingly drawn into the DRC imbroglio given its mediation history in that country.

He too is waiting for the Catholic bishops to comment on the provisional results that pre-election favorite Martin Fayulu has called an electoral coup.

South Africa will be in the spotlight at the United Nations Security Council tomorrow.

France has called  for the meeting on the DRC and its Foreign Minister Yves le Drian says the provisional results from the DRC don’t tally with results from polling stations.

Human Rights Watch says South Africa must exert maximum diplomatic pressure on the Congolese government to publish real results of the December 30 Presidential election.

Head of the country’s electoral commission, known as CENI says the country must be patient because he doesn’t know when those results will be made known.

The report by Human Rights Watch of irregularities and suppression of voting rights at the DRC election is at odds with regional grouping SADC’s finding that the poll had been relatively well managed.

Urging South African intervention, the watchdog  echoes the Congolese opposition’s call on Pretoria to ensure the DRC people are not cheated.

They say the delay is deepening their conviction that they have won and that the government of President Joseph Kabila is refusing to accept this.

Congolese authorities have accused the Catholic Church of fomenting insurrection by saying its know who won last Sunday’s presidential election.

The Kinshasa government says the church has broken the law by making this assertion ahead of provisional results from the electoral commission known as CENI.

The DRC government slams yesterday’s call by the Catholic church to release the results of the election in the name of truth and justice.

It accuses the church of being irresponsible and anarchist.

CENI is scheduled to release provisional results tomorrow.

However, it says the tardy flow of information from polling stations will probably delay this.

The United States and the European Union have called for the early announcement of accurate results.

Detractors accuse outgoing President Joseph Kabila of being reluctant to accept the electoral defeat of his hand-picked successor Emmanuel Shadary by either Martin Fayulu or Felix Tshisekedi

The Catholic Church says it knows the result last Sunday Presidential election in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

It calls on the authorities to announce it now and quell the mounting storm.

The Catholic Church says data in its possession from vote counting from polling stations designates the selection of one candidate.

It does not name the aspirant.

It calls on the electoral commission known as CENI to publish the result in keeping with truth and justice.

CENI says the results are coming in too slowly and it will delay publication of interim results originally scheduled for Sunday.

Detractors say this is because the ruling coalition does not wish to acknowledge defeat for its candidate Emmanuel Shadary who was handpicked to succeed President Joseph Kabila who’s been in power for 17 years.

The United Nations Security Council will meet behind closed doors later today on last Sunday’s elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

It will be the first meeting of the UN powerhouse for South Africa in its third term as a rotating member of the 15-nation body.

France has called for the UN Security Council meeting on the DRC.

The central African giant is on a knife edge as the electoral commission known as CENI says provional results it was scheduled to release on Sunday will be delayed because information is  coming in too slowly from polling stations.

The Catholic Church contradicts this, saying it knows who has won and calls on CENI to make the announcement and stem the approaching storm.

The electoral commission in the DRC says there will be a delay in publishing provisional results from last Sunday’s Presidential election.

This after the SADC election observation team issued its report saying the poll had been relatively well managed.

Head of the DRC electoral commission known as CENI Corneille Nangaa’s told aspirants for the country’s presidency that provisional results of the election, scheduled to be released on Sunday, will be delayed.

That’s because less than a fifth of the tally sheets from around the country have reached the commission offices in Kinshasa.

He did not provide a new date for publication.

Authorities have blocked the internet in the Congo until the provisional results are made known.

The European Union, United States, Canada and Switzerland have told them to turn it on again.

The electoral commission in the Democratic Republic of Congo has delayed until March the voting in three cities in Sunday’s presidential election.

They’re saying it would be impossible to hold a credible process  in these areas because of insecurity and the EBOLA outbreak.

The opposition’s calling it another strategy to hijack the truth of the poll.

The areas where the vote has been further delayed are Beni and Butembo at the epicenter of the EBOLA outbreak in the east of the DRC and Yumbi in the west , where 100 people died in ethnic clashes last week.

The move by the electoral commission means the votes of  more than a million of the country’s 46 electors will not be considered in the results to be announced next month.

Beni and Butembo are considered opposition bastions.

Angry opposition supporters in the Democratic Republic of Congo have taken to the streets protesting against the seven-day delay in holding the country’s presidential election.

They warn there will be blood if the voting does not take place on Sunday as scheduled.

The electoral commission in the DRC says it cannot deploy voting material in time for the election on Sunday.

It blames a massive fire at its warehouse in Kinshasa which is home to 15 percent of the country’s 46-million voters.

The opposition say the delay has been orchestrated by Joseph Kabila who’s two-term mandate as president expired more than two years ago.

They say if they accept a seven-day delay now, Kabila will seize on it and make it seven months.

Presidential elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo look like being delayed for at least a few days.

This follows an admission to the candidates by the electoral commission that they would be unable to organize the elections as scheduled on Sunday.

It’s for the government of President Joseph Kabila to announce any delay in elections that are already more than two years overdue.

Electoral Commission (CENI) head Corneille Nangaa told candidates this afternoon that it could not make good on its assurance to bounce back from the warehouse fire in the capital Kinshasa last week that destroyed two thirds of the voting material.

CENI spokesman Pierre Kalamba says a delay is most likely, although that is not the commission’s decision.
