]]> MTN’s played a straight bat to reported threats of retaliation to its Nigerian operations as a result of a frozen arms deal between South Africa and the West African giant.

MTN’s group spokesman Chris Moroleng says the matter remains in the realms of speculation and is best dealt with on a government-to-government level.

The threat against MTN comes from a senior Nigerian official speaking on condition of anonymity.

He’s unhappy about what he calls the South African authorities freezing a legitimate arms purchase by Nigeria.

MTN spokesman Chris Moroleng says they’re confident the matter will be dealt with amicably between the governments in Pretoria and Abuja.

Nigeria with 53 million subscribers is the largest of MTN’s operations in 23 countries. It’s more than twice as large as the South African network.
