It will go on display at the new grand museum opening next year overlooking the pyramids of Giza.

The gilded coffin is the the outer container of three concentric coffins containing the mummy of Kind Tutankamun.

It was left at Luxor on the Nine from where it was moved amidst strict security last month.

Restoration will take eight months after which it  will go on display with the two inner coffins in the largest museum the planet devoted to a single civilization.

Its value is impossible to determine.

A 3500 year old bust of the 19-year old Tutankamun sold at Christie’s in London for $6 million last month.

The stone weighing almost 19 carats was once owned by the Oppenheimer family.

It took only five minutes of bidding at Christie’s for the hammer to fall on a $50 million bid by the American jewelry firm Harry Winston.

Christie’s head of jewelry Rahul Kadakia calls the stone the Leonardo da Vinci of the gem world.

It’s classified fancy vivid, which is the highest level of colour intensity.

In its 250 years of existence Christie’s has sold only four pink diamonds of more than four carats.

Only two percent of diamonds unearthed are of the pink variety that comes from a lack of nitrogen.
