Labour Party peer and anti-apartheid activist Lord Peter Hain says it’s going to be a bit of an uphill battle for President Cyril Ramaphosa  to establish a meaningful realtionship with Britain’s new Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Hain, who’s visiting South Africa, says there will be a relationship and an important one because the ties between the two countries are very close.

Lord Hain says Boris Johnson has never expressed any interested in Africa or South Africa.

Johnson and his Conservative colleagues were on the wrong side of the anti-apartheid struggle.

“He won’t have that identification historically that for example Tony Blair and Gordon Brown had and a lot of their Labour colleagues, including me, had with the struggle and therefore the South Africa of today,” he says

Hain says Johnson will not be an automatic ally.

He was a very bad foreign secretary having been regarded as a bit of clown in in foreign capitals.
