French police say an armed man’s holding two hostages in a post office.

There are no immediate links to the jihadi attack and hostage taking in France a week ago.

Police have cordoned off parts of Colombes, a city located in the north western suburbs of Paris.

The French radio network RTL’s reporting it involves a man known to police with a history of petty crime.

He called the police himself and claimed to be armed and holding three people in post office.

Reports suggested it was likely a local with possible mental illness.

According to officials, the situation in Colombes does not appear to be related to last week’s terrorism in France and the further scares this week in Belgium and Germany.

Local radio reports there were negotiations with the man who was known to police and has a record of petty offences.

It is not clear how many hostages the assailant was holding in the post office at Colombes.

After negotiations, the man released several hostages and eventually handed himself over to police.

The gunman was armed with a Kalashnikov rifle, a gun and numerous grenades.

No one was injured.

The incident came a week after French police and special forces killed two hostages takers who’s allegedly killed a dozen people at a magazine office in Paris and another jihadi who had killed four hostages at a Jewish grocery story in the capital.
