The mainly Christian town of 60 000 was captured by the Islamist militants  last Thursday.

The Nigerian army’s urging residents in Chibok, who’d fled in terror last week, to return to their homes.

Boko Haram fighters drove into the  town  shooting from motorbikes and bakkies.

Colonel Sani Usman says Chibok was recaptured at the weekend by troops of  the Nigerian army’s seventh division.

Boko Haram retains control of several towns in the region, waging a reign of terror.

On Sunday a suicide bomb in the northeastern Nigerian town of Azare killed 13 and injured 65.
