Opposition activists have declared that failure to hold elections this year – after President Joseph Kabila’s constitutional mandate ran out last November – would be an act of war.

Last September, the United States froze the assets in that country of two senior officials in the government of President Joseph Kabila.

Then President Barak Obama was warning Kabila to respect the constitutional limit running out in two months time.

There were deadly clashes after government declared the DRC could not afford to hold elections after Kabila decided to cling to power.

The DRCs Electoral Commission gave notice Sunday that delays in registering voters mean elections are unlikely this year.

President  Donald Trump’s administration is issuing a similar warning to his predecessor, namely that Kabila must let the people decide.
