]]> The death toll from the cyclone that hit Madagascar for 24 hours 10 days about has risen to 51.

22 people are still missing

Cyclone Ava, generating winds of 190 kilometers an hour,  left at least 54 000 people homeless .

The flooding and heavy rain has killed more than twice as many as were counted a week ago.

There was heavy flooding in the capital Antananarivo.

in one incident 17 people were killed when mudslide caused a house to collapse.

The UN humanitarian agency says more than 34 000 children are out of school

Roads have been cut off and bridges submerged.

Madagascar is one of the world’s poorest countries and is particularly badly hit by cyclones at this time of year.

Last year Cyclone Enawo killed 78 people.
