]]> Tens of thousands of people are attending the state funeral for Zambian President Michael Sata who died in London last month while receiving medical treatment.

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa’s among regional dignitaries at the moving Catholic Mass in Lusaka’s National Heroes Stadium.

Zambia’s currently being run by acting president Guy Scott.

Because his parents were not Zambian, he’s constitutionally disqualified from contesting the election expected in January.

There a respite today in power play that’s gripped Zambia in recent weeks as the country bids farewell to the man known as King Cobra for his venomous tongue.

Elected in 2011, Sata’s the second Zambian president to die in office.

The country’s currently celebrating the 50th anniversary of its independence from Britain.
