Jonathan’s Nigeria’s first president to be democratically unseated.

Declaring that nobody’s ambition is worth the life of a single Nigerian, outgoing president Goodluck Jonathan has promised to go quietly and peacefully.

Congratulations, including those of President Jacob Zuma, are pouring in for Jonathan’s successor, the 72-year-old former military ruler who is an avowed convert to democracy.

Jonathan’s conceding defeat yesterday, even before the final official results were announced, went a long way to ensuring a peaceful change.

Buhari will be buoyed by the orderly election that brought him to power.

However, he has his work cut out, beating the insurgency by Boko Haram, fighting corruption and balancing the books given the falling oil price.
