They pointed out that on a number of levels there are commonalities between South Africa and the Indian-Ocean Island four-hours flight away.

Prefet of Reunion Dominique Sorain, who is Paris’s chief representative on the Island, led a team of 20 representing, tourism, education, business and national parks.

Reunion prioritises South Africa along with its neighbours, India, China and Australia for profitable partnerships to benefit its 800 000 population and cut the 60% youth unemployment it’s experiencing.

Devimeux says South Africa can teach Reunion about dealing with Anglophone Africa and the island has, in turn, some interesting insights into dealing with French-speaking countries on the continent.
