Almost half of Gambia’s 1,8 million population goes to the polls today to vote for a president.

Incumbent Yaya  Jammeh, who came to power in a coup 22 years ago, is seeking a fifth term.

Gambia’s never had a democratic change of power since its independence 51 years ago.

Observers from the European Union and the Economic Community of West African States have stayed away from this West African slivver of a country entirely surrounded by Senegal because they don’t believe the elections will be fair.

Most of the main parties have united behind estate agent Adama Barrow who’s challenging President Yaya Jammeh.

Jammeh’s dismissing accusations from human rights groups that he’s harassed the opposition ahead of the poll.
