]]> Seven Ethiopian migrants bound for South Africa have drowned off the coast of Tanzania.

The captain of the boat that capsized is still missing.

The boat was carrying 13 people when it sank near Tanzania’a maritime border with Kenya.

The five rescued passengers told Tanzanian police they were heading for South Africa.

Tanzanian authorities are in contact with their counterparts in Addis Ababa about returning the rescued passengers and the bodies of the dead.

All of them are  Ethiopian.

The nationality of the captain, who is still being sought, is not known.

Tanga police commander Edward Bukome says it’s not unusual for Tanzanian police to intercept and detain Ethiopian migrants heading for South Africa, although most of these are travelling by land rather than sea.
