Today’s scheduled inauguration of Felix Tshisekedi as President of the Democratic Republic of Congo will be postponed until Thursday.

Authorities in Kinshasa have prevented a rally by  Martin Fayulu who persists that he won the election.

Police removed the podium and speakers outside Martin Fayulu’s party headquarters where he was due to address supporters.

He’s refused President-elect Felix Tshisekedi’s invitation to work together because he maintains the election was stolen.

Invitations to Tshisekedi’s inauguration have been sent to foreign leaders.

It will be interesting to see who attends after the African Union, the European Union, France and Belgium have expressed serious doubts about the official results presented by the electoral commission and upheld by the constitutional court.

An EU mission has questioned the validity of elections that saw Gabon’s president, Ali Bongo, re-elected by a very narrow margin.

France has recommended a recount and the African Union said it will send mediators after at least half a dozen deaths in post election violence.

ends intro

Gabon’s opposition leader Jean Ping – who has said the election was stolen – is calling  on the international community to help the people of Gabon.

EU election monitors have focused on Haut-Ogooue, a Bongo stronghold, where official figures showed he won 95,46 percent of the vote on a 99,9 percent turnout.

The EU noted that such a number means only 47 people in the area would not have voted. Other provinces showed on average a 48 percent voter turnout.

Bongo’s victory margin is fewer than 6 000 votes.
