Kenya’s Supreme Court finds the country’s Electoral commission failed to verify all the returns in last month’s presidential election before declaring President  Uhuru Kenyatta the winner,.

The highest court was putting flesh on the bones of  its ruling nullified the result.

Four of the six  Supreme Court judges who supported the annulment say its irrelevant that Uhuru Kenyatta appeared to have won the election by a large margin,  because elections are not just about numbers.

They hold that elections are not events but processess.

The, failure by the electoral commission to verify the result in consultation with the commission chair before declaring the result violates provisions of the elections act.

These violations of the constitution and the law call into serious doubt whether the election can said to have been a free expression of the will of the people.
