]]> Welcoming delegates to what’s frankly being called a risky effort to achieve a political settlement in Libya, their French host President Emmanuel Macron says there’s a desire for reconciliation in the fractured North African state.

He says the UN-sponsored meeting in Paris will give a sovereign people a chance to decide for themselves.

Libya’s come apart since the fall and killing of Muammar Gadaffi seven years ago.

Leaders of the rival factions have at least attended the French-backed push for a political settlement that analysts are sceptical about.

The United Nations and the former colonial power, Italy have failed achieve this.

This has not stopped French President Emmanuel Macron having a stab at mediation.

Welcoming Prime Minister Faye al Sarraj to the Elysee Palace he says the period we are i  requires decisions .
