Kenya’s presidential spokesperson Kanza Dena insists her boss has not gone missing but has been working on pressing issues in his office.

Speculation about the whereabouts of Uhuru Kenyatta highlights the divisions in his ruling Jubilee Party as he works on his political heritage in his final term as President.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is determined not to follow predecessors Mwai Kibaki and Daniel Arap Moi in becoming lame duck presidents in their second terms.

He’s working on his four-part programme  of ensuring food security, affordable housing, health care and boosting manufacturing.

But his Jubilee Party remain split after his rapprochement more than a year ago with Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

The party –  Kenya’s electorate generally – are disappointed at his inability to keep his promise to eradicate corruption.

The international financial institutions returning the screws as they make loans for relief and rebuilding following the two deadly cyclones that hit Mozambique.

The Maputo government’s hoping money from the international donor conference in Beira at the end of this month will come with fewer strings attached.

The IMF is taking $118-million from its Rapid Credit Facility to make a loan to Mozambique.

It’s demanding budget cuts from the government of President Felipe Nyusi and the reallocation of priority spending to help the poorest citizens rebuild their homes destroyed by cyclones Idai and Kenneth.

The World Bank’s making a $350-million grant  Mozambique that will be tightly controlled to ensure spending  infrastructure repair, re-establishing crops, food security, disease control, social assistance and building early warning systems.

President Jacob Zuma’s arrived in Malabo, the capital of Equatorial Guinea, for the 23rd African Union Summit.

Once again problems on the continent are expected to eclipse discussion on the agricultural theme of the gathering.

Determined to have a continent with the most available arable land feed itself, African leaders have once again named agriculture and food security as the theme of their three-day gathering starting tomorrow.

At their last gathering in Addis Ababa in January, conflict in Central Africa and South Sudan drove deliberations on these issues down the agenda.

These threats to peace persist.

Fighting’s flared in Libya.

Somali insurgents are attacking neighbouring Kenya.

In addition to the trouble spots the African leaders have to address an ebola outbreak in the west of the continent that has run out of control.
