More than half of the Congolese women surveyed said they’s been raped in custody.

The report from London-based Freedom from Torture calls on the Kinshasa government to meet its commitments under the UN Convention against Torture.

It’s research from 34 forensic studies finds women in detention are routinely raped

The victims are aged between 16 and 61
They said they’d been gang raped while being held on political charges.

They’d either been active themselves or were related to political dissidents.

The victims ranged from traders to graduates to professionals.

They maintain they’d been violated to silence them as critics of the government.
