The bombers targeted the local government headquarters and then emergency services at the scene of the first blast.

Al-Shabab, the armed group fighting to overthrow the internationally-backed government in Mogadishu, claims responsibility for the blasts – first a truck bomb and then  an explosive-packed motor car.

The UN mission in Somalia condemns the explosions. and vows that terrorist attacks won’t  stop 2016 electoral process.

Somalia is scheduled to hold elections later this year.

The attack in Galkayo comes just days after US-trained Somali security services captured a wanted al-Shabab commander and four other suspected fighters.
