The European border guard Frontex is flying over the Mediterranean this morning in search of the dinghy carrying the migrants..

At the weekend, two German boats monitoring those in peril on the sea spotted four craft off the southern coast of Malta.

They had set out from Libya, bound for Italy.

One of them has since arrived at its destination another two are still at sea.

The court dinghy is unaccounted for. 

UNHCR spokesperson Carlotta Sami says they fear the missing boat has capsized.

In addition to Frontex, the European Coast Guard and a German Sea Watch vessel are engaged in the search.

This despite a decree from outgoing Interior Minister Matteo Salvini barring the Eleonore from Italian waters.

The rescue ship had been stranded at sea for more than a week, putting the migrants at risk.

It is not clear what will happen to them once they have disembarked at Sicily or indeed what the police will do with the ship.

The action comes as anti-immigrant right winger Matteo Salvini prepares to leave office as Interior Minister having lost his job by overplayed his hand in  a domestic power push that has left him in position that many braving the hazardous Mediterranean crossing  might envy: high and dry.

Tens of thousands of Hereros and at least 10 000 Namas were killed by the Germans when they revealed between 1904 and 1908.

New York Judge Laura Taylor Swain ruled that the Herero and Nama claim was inadmissible because of Germany’s sovereignty immunity during its 31-year colonization of Namibia.

Herero chief Vekuii Rukero says the judge was wrong and the ruling would be appealed.

The claim was made in New York because the tribes maintain there is an American commercial involvement in the genocide because bones of the victims were  sold in the  United States.
