There’s some heartening news, however, two of the confirmed Ebola patients have recovered well enough to go home. They’ve developed antibodies  removing any danger of them transmitting the disease.

The death of the nurse was announced as authorities began administering the anti-Ebola vaccine to medical caregivers and those who’ve come into contact with Ebola victims.

Of the 49 cases of haemorrhagic fever recorded in northwest Congo, 22 are confirmed as Ebola, 21 are probable and six suspected.

Authorities are confident they can stop the disease spreading further into the giant central African country and to its neighbours.

Isaac Adewole’s seeking to allay Saudi Arabian fears of the hemorrhagic viral disease that could bar Nigerians from the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, known as Haj, in four months time.

Saudi Arabia hasn’t officially said it will close the 95 000 slots allocated  to Nigerians at Haj this year.

But the Abuja government’s taking no chances.

Health Commissioners have been summoned to the capital to reassure the Saudi’s that they have things under control.

Health Minister Isaac Adewole says the 90 deaths from the viral disease commonly carried by rats were in the first two months of this year.

There has been only one death this past month.

All Nigerian pilgrims heading to Saudi Arabia in August will be screened.
