The bank and the International Monetary fund are racing to provide emergency fund for Africa and other developing regions to combat the virus.

The World Bank’s bank’s Africa Pulse Report predicts Sub-Sahara Africa’s economy will contract 2,1% to 5,1% from growth of 2,4% last year.

It expects coronavirus to cost sub-Saharan Africa $37 billion to $79 billion in output losses this year due to trade and value chain disruption, among other factors.

Africa has at least 11 440 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, 574 deaths and 1 405 recoveries.

World Bank Vice President for Africa Hafez Ghanem says the COVID-19 pandemic will hit African countries particularly hard.
