]]> Tunisians go to the polls tomorrow for a parliamentary election expected to be as orderly as the first round of the presidential contest last month.

The big question is whether it will produce a result capable of breaking the economic stagnation hamstringing this Mediterranean Arab country.

The victory of two outsiders in the first round of the Presidential poll showed Tunisians have lost faith in the country’s traditional political leadership.

The Parliamentary election on Sunday is likely to produce a similar outcome.

This will leave the winners having to forge a coalition.

Already two front runners , the moderate Islamist Ennahda Party and Heart of Tunisia Party have said they won’t share power.

Analysts agree political paralysis is a problem Tunisia can least afford.

]]> Rivals of the jailed Tunisian businessman vying for the country’s presidency are seeking his disqualification for signing a lobbying contract with a Canadian.

Nabil Karoui, in jail awaiting trial on tax evasion and money laundering charges, is seeking meetings among others with President Donald Trump.

 

The revelations about Nabil Karoui’s activities come as a bombshell in the supercharged political climate with back-to-back legislative and presidential elections.

Karouis rivals say his $1 million dollar contract with Canadian obeying firm breaks local law forbidding any foreign funding or support for Tunisians running for office.

His Heart of Tunisia Party contests parliament elections on Sunday.

He, himself, goes head to head with lawyer Kaïs Saïed in a presidential run-off a week later.

He has repeatedly failed to get  bail to contest that poll.
