The Australian bush fires struck a somber note on what has become one of the most popular national day celebrations on Pretoria’s diplomatic calendar.

High Commissioner Gita Kamath says Australian determination and known how coupled with the international support would triumph.

The deaths of three American firefighters on Thursday brought the toll from the flames since November to 32. At least 3000 homes have been destroyed and a billion iconic Antipodean animals and birds have perished.
