The 27-year-old mother of two has sought refuge at the US embassy in Khartoum.

The death sentence on Meriam Ibrahim Ishag was annulled and she was released on Monday.

But she was re-arrested on Wednesday when she tried to leave the country with her American husband and two children.

She was using South Sudanese travel document that Khartoum authorities say was a forgery.

Ibrahim has told the BBC she remains a Christian despite the persecution that includes being forced to give birth to her second child while chained to her hospital bed.

Her lawyer says she’s been released on condition that she does not leave Sudan to avoid facing forgery charges.

Her lawyer says the 27-year-old mother who faced execution for marrying a Christian, was trying to board a plane in Khartoum.

Mariam Yahya Ibrahim was sentenced to death last month for converting to Christianity from Islam.

She was released late yesterday after heavy international pressure on the Khartoum government.

A Sudanese security official says he doesn’t know the reason for Ibrahim’s re-arrest.

Her lawyers says she’s being held at a security building outside the airport with her husband and two children.

Ibrahim was in chains when she gave birth to her daughter less than a fortnight after being condemned to death.

Her chains were removed a day before her release which was welcomed by Western governments and human rights groups.
