]]> On World Environment Day the United Nations has released a report saying less than 10%of plastic produced has been recycled.

The world organization says governments should consider banning or taxing single-use bags or food containers to stem a tide of pollution.

The UN Environment study is billed as the most comprehensive review of government action to curb single-use plastics.

It says up to 5 trillion plastic bags were used worldwide each year. 

Spread out side-by-side, they’d  cover an area twice the size of France.

UN Environment head Erik Solheim says the scourge of plastic has reached every corner of the Earth.

The Indian government that’s involved in compiling the report has launched a slogan “If you can’t reuse it, refuse it.”
