He was briefing media on special arrangements made to accommodate those traveling for personal or religious reasons.

Minister Siyabonga Cwele says his Home Affairs officials are not expecting to deal with more than the 1,2 million travelers it processed last year.

“The number are greater when Easter coincides with the school holidays, which is not the case this year,” he says.

He says the important thing is those travelers will benefit from clarifications last month to visa requirements bringing South Africa into line with international norms.

And this will become even easier when the e-visa system, which has pilot schemes already running, comes into force.
