Burkina Faso’s political parties have agreed that the country’s political transition should last a year, followed by elections in November 2015.

But the crisis talks in Ouagadougou ended without a deal on who’ll head a transitional government.

The military has been in charge since President Blaise Compaore was forced to quit last week amid mass protests.

Three African leaders were in Ougadougou yesterday underlining the African Union decision to give the military two weeks to hand power to a civilian ruler or face sanctions.

Lt Col Isaac Zida – the interim leader backed by the army – promises to comply with the deadline.

Yesterday’s crisis talks in Ouagadougou were also attended by civil society groups and tribal chiefs.

They were mediated by Presidents John Mahama of Ghana, Senegal’s Macky Sall and Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria.

Nigeria’s top political body’s promising to deliver good news very soon about more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped nearly three months ago.

The National Council of state says it knows where the terror group is holding the abductees and efforts are being made to rescue them.

Nigeria’s National Council is made up of past presidents, state governors and parliamentary leaders.

It says the question now is not whether the kidnapped schoolgirls will be rescued but how they can be freed without endangering their lives.

President Goodluck Jonathan convinced the council that he and military are on top of the situation.

Last week the military confirmed that more than 60 of the captives managed to escape while the terrorists were off fighting.

They are back with their families in Chibok.

Al Shabab has threatened to sell the girls into slavery.
