]]> UN peacekeepers are seeking access to 13 grave sites found in the Kasai region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

They fear they contain bodies of some of the more than 400 people who’ve died in clashes between government and rebel forces since last August.

The DRC army is seeking to put down rebellion by a group called the Kamwina Nsapu that began after the killing of their leader.

Two UN experts investigating abuses by both sides in the fighting were abducted last month and found buried in shallow graves.

UN human rights director Jose Maria Aranaz says its important to  conduct a transparent independent investigation to reassure the population and ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice
