Premiers of New Zealand and France are hosting a Paris summit against online extremism.

World leaders with them will pledge action to eliminate terrorism, violence and extremism from social media and other online platforms.

The meeting hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is entitled Christchurch Call after the gunning down of 51 worshippers at two mosques in that city in March by a white extremist.

It also brings in Macron’s Tech For Good project.

In attendance are Jordan’s King Abdullah II, Canadian premier Justin Trudeau, British Prime Minister Theresa May and European Union Commissioner Jean-Claude Juncker.

Twitter founder and chief executive Jack Dorsey is there along with Nick Clegg, the former deputy British Prime Minister whose become Facebook’s vice president for international affairs.

Attending  what is the most divisive summit yet of the world richest countries, President  Cyril Ramaphosa  is  pressing  his message that South Africa’s economic renewal creates opportunities for investors around the world.

He tells his host, Premier Justin Turdeau that  South Africa sees Canada as a strategic partner in navigating the difficulties facing the world economy.

At the G7 outreach summit in Charlevoix, President Cyril Ramaphosa speaks of signs of recovery and improved growth in the world economy.

But largely because of the reluctant participant US President Donald Trump, whom he doesn’t name, Ramaphosa sees a global trade war looming, a return to protectionism and a weakening of the multilateral rules-based international trade system.

He tells  G7 leaders, scrambling to salvage something from their summit, that investment banker Goldman Sachs is calling South Africa a hot emerging market

Leaders of the world’s seven richest countries start their summit in Quebec tomorrow with one of them no wanting to be there and an invited guest hoping to use it to add a chunk to his country’s growth domestic product.

The host, Canadian premier Justin Tudeau will lead the G7 discussion on advancing the ocean economy. 

But they’ll also make their strong feeling felt about Washington’s new protectionist moves.

US President Donald Trump will leave the G7 summit before it get to discussing the environment and climate change.

He’s  at odds  his counterparts on these issues and won’t abide being lectured by them.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has made the trip to Quebec because he believes internationalmoves to enhance ocean economies fits in with South Africa’s operation Phakisa using the country’s nearly 4 000km-long coastline to create a  million jobs and add R177 billion to the GDP.

President Cyril Ramaphosa going to Canada this weekend for the G7 Leaders’ Summit Outreach.

His participation with leaders of the world’s richest countries is part of his drive to attract investment, grow the economy, create jobs and address poverty and inequality.

Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is hosting the G7 outreach summit under the theme Healthy, Productive and Resilient Oceans and Seas, Coasts and Communities.

 

The Presidency says the meeting is in line with the goals outlined in South Africa’s National Development Plan and speaks to the country’s efforts to stimulate economic growth and job creation by, amongst others, unlocking the oceans economy.

Operation Phakisa is using South Africa’s sprawling and largely untapped  3 924km coastline to create  one million jobs and contribute up to R177bn to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country.
