They’ve arrested  eight suspects.

The victims, some of whom had been held in chains for several years, were tortured, sexually abused and starved.

Nigerian police say the case involving men and boys amounted to human slavery.

They raided the house after a tip-off about suspicious activity.

Some of victims , who were overjoyed at being rescued, said their families had left them there believing it was a religious school.

There was no evidence that the building ever was a school.

The victims have been taken to local football stadium while their families are being traced.

They will all undergo medical and psychological examinations.

Most of the teachers facing the axes had failed grade four competency tests they themselves had set for pupils.

It’s been a deeply embarrassing  episode for  Nigerian educators.

Authorities in Kaduna found 22 000 teachers failed competency tests that they themselves had set for grade four pupils.

A further 3 000 were unqualified.

Authorities released the failing scripts for public scrutiny.

They want to sack the bad  teachers and replace them. The union intervened and organized protests and prayers meetings until they secured a stay order from the courts
