At least 27 people have died in suicide bombings in two north eastern Nigerian centres..

However, President Goodluck Jonathan says the tide is turning and rapid progress is being made regaining land seized by terror group Boko Haram.

The first bomb struck in Potiskum where 17 people were killed.

Eyewitnesses say the bomber blew himself up trying to board a bus.

Hours later ten people died 350 kilometres away in the main northern city of Kano.

Again, the suicide bombers targeted a crowded bus station

President Goodluck Jonathan’s blaming Boko Haram for both blasts.

He insists the jihadis’ insurgency will soon be over because government forces are recapturing territory captured in their quest to establish a caliphate in northern Nigeria.

Two bombs have exploded in quick succession in the Nigerian city of Jos killing at least 30 people.

It follows suicide attacks by women jihadis in Nigeria’s second city of Kano yesterday that left at least four people dead.

Boko Haram’s being blamed for the twin bomb blasts at a crowded marketplace in Jos, near the scene of a major bombing in May.

Boko Haram’s seeking to establish a caliphate in north eastern Nigeria, and it’s been particularly active in Jos that has a mixed population of Muslims and Christians.

The terrorist have attacked both churches and mosques there.

The group’s killed more than 2 000 people this year.

Police in Kano say they’ve arrested a 13-year-old girl wearing a suicide belt.

Nigeria is second on the list, behind Iraq, of jihadi violence that killed more than 5 000 people last month.

The attack on the Grand Mosque in the Nigerian city of Kano that killed 120 people was the single deadliest incident.

The BBC study with International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation – records a total of 664 attacks in 14 countries.

Four fifths of these were in Iraq, Nigeria, Afghanistan and Syria.

The investigation records nearly seven people died every hour in November as a result of violence attributed to al-Qaeda, its offshoots and groups that subscribe to a similar ideology.

Sixty per cent of jihadist deaths were caused by groups that have no formal association with al-Qaeda.

They are expected to be the ones who will eventually vie for leadership of the movement.

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan’s urging his compatriots to stand against terrorists who attacked a mosque in the second largest city of Kano yesterday, killing almost 400 people.

Jonathan promises to leave no stone unturned in hunting down those responsible for the gun and bomb assault.

No-one’s claimed responsibility for attack during Friday prayers.

Officials say it bears all the hallmarks of the Boko Haram militant group.

Separately, the security forces say they had foiled an attempt to attack worshippers in the north-eastern city of Maiduguri where they defused six bombs planted in a mosque and a nearby market.

Boko Haram has been waging an insurgency in Nigeria since 2009 – and has killed more than 2,000 people this year.

In January 2012, about 150 people died in a series of co-ordinated attacks by Boko Haram in the largest city in Nigeria’s mainly Muslim north..

The bombing comes as the Nigerian authorities continue the search for more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram on April 14..
