Three girls  suspected of being suicide bombers have been  gunned down by civilian fighters in a northeastern Nigerian.

The shooting occurred outside a bustling market  near Madagali town.

Boko Haram is suspected of being behind the incident.

Civilian fighters who work alongside the army challenged the girls as they approached the village.

The girls began running at the fighters’ checkpoint.

The fighters shot the girl in the lead, activating her explosives and killing her and a companion.

The third girl tried to flee and was gunned down.

Two women suicide bombers killed 57 people and wounded 177, including 120 children, last month at Madagali market, 20 kilometres from the scene of Wednesday’s shootings.

Boko Haram has used scores of women and girls as young as seven in suicide bombings that have killed hundreds last year.

Some of the bombers are suspected to have been previously kidnapped.

Cameroon authorities have expressed doubt about a would-be suicide bomber’s claim to be one of the schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in Chibok, Nigeria  nearly two years ago.

They say there are inconsistencies over the ago of the jihadi woman.

ends intro

A Nigerian delegation from Chibok is awaiting the green light from Cameroon to visit Yaounde and see if they can recognize the would-be bomber.

She was arrested last Friday along with a friend.

They were wearing 12-kilogramme explosive belts.

They were heavily drugged and had several injuries to their bodies.

Terror group Boko Haram, which kidnapped the Chibok schoolgirls in April 2014, has spread its tentacles to Nigeria’s neighbours.

It often uses young girls as suicide bombers against civilian targets.

216 of the abducted schoolgirls remain missing.

Nigerian security authorities have made little progress finding them and securing their release.

Nigerian forces have begun a ground offensive on the Sambisa forest in the northeast of country.

It is the last bolt hole for Boko Haram terrorists and is believed to be where they are still holding some of the schoolgirls they kidnapped a year ago.

Steadily taking back territory seized by the Islamist terror group Boko Haram, Nigerian planes have been straffing the Samibisa forest for some months.

The militants, who’ve killed thousands since their offensive started six year ago designed to create a caliphate in the north east of Africa’s most populous country, have several bases in the forest.

Nigerian forces have thusfar stopped short of attacking these bases, where they believe some of the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls are being held, for fear of further endangering the hostages.

Hundreds of traditional hunters in Nigeria have gathered to help find nearly 300 schoolgirls abducted by terrorists five weeks ago.

They believe their homemade guns, poisoned spears and supernatural powers will achieve what has been too much for Nigeria’s traditional security forces.

The hunters range in age from 18 to 80.

They’ve been waiting for two weeks in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital and the birthplace of Boko Haram, to get backing from the military and get moving.

Nigeria’s military’s accused by many citizens of not doing enough to rescue the girls.

The spiritual skills claimed by the hunters are recognised by their peers.

They include magic charms that stop them from bleeding when injured and amulets of herbs and other substances wrapped in leather pouches as well as cowrie shells, animal teeth and leather bracelets to protect them from bullets.
